The last few years has witnessed a steep rise in the Economy of Angul District, with the setting up of the various public sector undertakings like National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), Mahanadi Coal Fields Limited (MCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS). Apart from this, many private sectors also established which helped industrialization of the area. Here, there is also the presence of a Talcher heavy water plant.
Talcher Coal area which is regarded as the largest coal filed in Asia also helped to improve revenue and economy of the area.
The District Industries Center functioning in the District promotes its various industrial activities in micro, small and medium enterprises.
Agriculture is also the major contributor to the District’s Economy, providing direct and indirect employment to the people. The rural handicrafts, cottage industries also helped to improve economy of the district.
